Why does God pay attention to us when we pray? It doesn't make sense, but He does.
It is common to hear the claim made that there is a conflict between science and what is written in the Bible. Nothing could be further from the truth.............
If you have ever read literature written by someone from Scotland you have likely run across a word we don't use much over here in America. That word is "ken". To define it in American English one would say it means (in its verb form) "to understand". Unfortunately, that definition only gets to part of the meaning of "ken". When we think of understanding something – say a scientific research problem or maybe just why a friend is behaving the way he is behaving – we think in terms of taking our accumulated knowledge (a whole lot of facts and observations) and analyzing until we arrive at
So, here is something kind of off-track from my usual posts......My oldest son (currently residing in Canada) posted a link to the launch of the latest test of the NASA/Space X crew transport rocket/capsule. It was really cool to watch and a true accomplishment for America’s space industry. Here is a copy of our (slightly edited) Discord dialog:
Well, it's another snow day. Third in a row for this math teacher. I live in Eugene but work in Oakridge, 45 miles up Hwy 58 toward Willamette Pass. Oakridge has been without power and completely cut off from the outside world for about 5 days now. I can't help but wonder how the children I teach are doing. Most people rely on electricity to heat their homes, so my kids are likely really struggling with the cold. Only those who have wood or propane heat to supplement will be warm.
It seems to have become a Saturday night tradition in the Reagan household to eat pizza and watch a movie. We like, on occasion, to watch a good spy thriller and the last two Saturday evenings we watched the first two movies in the Jason Bourne series. (The second movie was even darker than the first.) What is prompting me to write this morning is that the ending scenes of the second movie highlight
It’s July 5th and this morning I stepped out on our balcony and put out our flag one more time. We don’t have a bracket to insert the pole into, so I used spring clips to attach it to the railing. It doesn’t really matter how it is displayed, the flag is a symbol of our nation and of our devotion to America. I love my nation and this Independence Day season I have been feeling particularly proud to be an American...
The slide into sin often follows a threefold pattern...
Years ago, when we were still homeschooling our sons, my youngest son, David, created a web site full of very nice graphics that can be used as walpaper, icons or whatever. He even used some of them to make real tiles that he sent to his grandmothers as gifts. That site has been sitting inactivated and static for years but just the other day David reactivated it. It's still a great site and you can check it out here:
Jesus told Peter that the church would be built on the rock of revelation. Here are some thoughts on that passage.
