Our second foundational principle for Bible study deals with listening to the Holy Spirit and letting Him reveal its meaning/application to us. The best way to understand how the Holy Spirit works in our lives is, perhaps, to see how He worked in the men of the New Testament......
Principle #1: God’s word is true regardless of our perceptions or feelings. 2 Peter 3:8-9 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. There are sixty-six books in the Bible and God used around 40 different men to write them. Those men were “moved by the Holy Spirit” as they wrote the words we now call scripture. When we study the scripture.......
I am, with this series of posts, likely speaking to several different groups of people. First, are those mature Christians who have studied the Bible for many years. Maybe, like me, they received the Lord into their life at an early age and have been walking with Him ever since. This group, I hope, will keep me on my toes and make sure I stay accurate in what I say. (So log in and comment if you have a concern or question about what I’m saying.) :>) A second group consists of those people who are either......
There are two things that are all important when seeking truth in the Bible. First, the Bible is true in every word and was inspired by the Holy Spirit making it His words spoken directly to us. If you can’t start from that position, then the Bible is useless.
This morning I was sorting through some old files, deleting what I could and organizing the rest when I ran across this file. We were living in Butte, Montana at the time and I think I may have originally written it as a letter to the editor of our local paper, The Montana Standard. It is worth posting here and I hope it stirs us to take a good look at our hearts and consider our motivations.
Well, it's finally out there! I finished my new book last Fall, but it's taken this long to get the publishing finished. It's published with two distributors: Ingram Spark (IS) (to take advantage of their massive, worldwide distribution system) and now, finally, Amazon.com. Getting it listed with IS was relatively easy, although, since it was my first time trying out this indie publishing thing, it did take me a while to work through. They have a good system, though. It went well and both the e-book and print versions have been available to retailers
Opponents of Christianity love to promote the idea that the Bible just doesn't match up with what modern science has discovered about our universe. They claim that the science contained in the Bible is just "myth" or nice stories. Not true! Here is a short discussion along with a PDF of my notes from Genesis Chapter 1.
Way too many people are phobic about using genetic technology to create better varieties of food-producing plants. Yet, like any technology, genetic manipulation can be wrongly used. Here are some thoughts on the matter.
It's been a long while since I posted here. Really, I have no excuse. However, to rectify that situation I am working on a series of posts dealing with my thoughts concerning the shutdown of the churches in America. I'm not going to start posting that series until I get them all finished, otherwise you would likely get the first few and the end would never come. In the meantime
Below is an excerpt from a paragraph I wrote this morning. As I reviewed it I was struck with how, in this time of crisis, many people need to hear it’s message. So, I’m posting it here for you to read and pass on as you see fit. I hope it speaks to you.
